A story about a boy who just needs a little alone time, so runs away on the back of a horse as he shapeshifts into different creatures of the forest and ocean. Once he reaches the island, he realizes how alone he is and begins to miss his sister. He journey's back home only to be welcomed by his loving family! A fun and imaginative read! Recommend! At first, I thought it seemed like too much for a kid... but glad I finished reading. Sometimes kids want to run away because they see things worse than they are and think its the answer. This story can open their eyes to the bigger picture. The 'why'. The things they don't realize they'd miss. The illustrations alone are worth the read. Beautiful paintings. It reminded me of my childhood and how I would feel a lot of the times going though my parents splitting up and eventually divorcing. It was very hard as a kid not understanding. I would imagine a lot like the character of this book and pretending I could be an animal and roam free. Then realizing it was lonely alone I went home. He changes shape to a running horse a quiet and quick wolf and then a sleek shark. Eventually, he learns on his own that his family is his home and where he belongs.
